Fresh Wave Of Floods And Landslides In Nepal
The recent floods and landslides in Nepal have caused major damage. As per a News18 report, around 24 people have died and 14 remain missing. The natural disaster has affected 747 families, while 1,500 people had to leave their homes in Gandaki province. The floods and landslides have damaged at least 143 houses, several bridges and parts of hydropower projects.
A large part of a mountain in Nepal’s Mustang district broke off and fell into the swollen Kali Gandaki River on September 27 around 5:30 PM. The falling rocks, mud and trees blocked the river for a short time and created a temporary natural dam. However, the rising water soon broke through the debris.
Also, the heavy rain caused a major cliff to collapse in Chame, Nepal’s Manang district. As the avalanche hit the base camp of Mount Himlung, it swept away a tent of climbers and support staff. A 14-member rescue team is now searching for 12 missing Nepalese workers and guides.

How Has It Raised Concern In India?
The fresh wave of floods and landslides has raised concern in India. Why? Because the Kali Gandaki River enters India, where it is known as the Gandak River. According to News18 report, the Valmikinagar Barrage recorded its highest water flow of the year at 5.44 lakh cusecs. Due to the rising water levels and flood risk, the Bihar government has put 17 districts in North Bihar on high alert.
When heavy rainfall disrupted lives in Nepal, around 9,000 foreign tourists and trekkers were in the country. For everyone’s safety, authorities have requested them to stop travelling and move to safer places.
