India’s aviation powerhouse IndiGo is charting a bold new course as it prepares to launch daily non-stop flights to London Heathrow starting October 26, using newly leased Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The move signals a major evolution in the airline’s international ambitions, coinciding with its 19th anniversary and a fresh thrust into the long-haul market.
IndiGo Launches London Heathrow Flight
According to The Times of India, the London route is not just a new service; it’s a statement of intent. With five additional Dreamliners expected to join its fleet this financial year, the airline is not merely expanding its network; it’s reimagining its role in global aviation.
The new flights are part of a broader push to scale IndiGo’s overseas footprint. The airline is targeting a 40% international capacity share by FY30, up from the current 28%. This leap will be supported by the arrival of long-range A321 XLRs beginning this fiscal year and A350-900s starting in 2027. The strategy marks a decisive shift for a carrier once known exclusively for its domestic dominance.
Complementing this expansion is the airline’s move to introduce its two-class “IndiGoStretch” business offering on more routes. Starting August 9, A321s configured with business class will begin flying between Singapore and both Delhi and Mumbai. Later this month, the service will extend to the Delhi-Dubai and Mumbai-Dubai routes. It’s a clear signal that IndiGo wants a piece of the premium pie and is ready to compete for it!
Onto New Heights
Fleet growth is also accelerating. IndiGo recently firmed up orders for 30 Airbus A350s, bringing its total A350 commitment to 60 aircraft. But the ambitions don’t end with London. New launches are on the radar in Copenhagen, Athens, Siem Reap, and across four cities in Central Asia by FY26. Meanwhile, codeshare agreements continue to open new doors: the latest with Jetstar gives IndiGo access to 14 cities in Australia and New Zealand, while partnerships with KLM, Japan Airlines, Delta, and Virgin Atlantic are poised to deepen intercontinental ties.
Domestically, the carrier is keeping pace. It has added Adampur and Hindon to its network and is preparing for 18 daily departures from Navi Mumbai airport once operational. A new MoU with Bangalore International Airport will also see the development of an MRO facility in Bengaluru, strengthening its technical backbone, as stated by The Times of India.

From a low-cost carrier with a single-type fleet to a global operator with wide-body ambitions, IndiGo’s evolution is gathering pace. And if its London debut is any indication, the airline’s runway for international growth is only just beginning.
