Japan To Launch A Prepaid Travel Card For Tourists In May; Check Cost, Validity & How It Works

Japan is on the bucket list of every other traveller these days. But now, they will be more relieved to know that getting around in Japan is going to get easier, too. The nation is all set to launch a new prepaid transport card exclusively for tourists in May. Here’s everything you need to know about this card if you are planning to visit Japan anytime soon.

Tourist Pasmo Card Will Make Travel Easier For Visitors In Japan

Imagine how easy it will be for foreign visitors to conveniently get around in Japan. They will simply have to carry a card called ‘Tourist Pasmo’ by Pasmo Co., an issuer of widely used train cards in Tokyo. According to Business Today, this new prepaid transport card will be launched exclusively for tourists in May. It will remain valid for 28 days from the date of purchase and can be used for cashless payments.

The card will be available at ticket vending machines and ticket offices at major stations, including Narita and Haneda airports. This will make it easier for foreign visitors to get this card the moment they land in Japan. Getting access to it is simple and straightforward.

Card Price, Validity And How It Works

Now let’s talk about the cost of the card and how it works. Pricing actually varies by airport. At Narita International Airport, the card costs a flat 2000 yen (₹1,200 approx). At Haneda Airport, travellers can load their card between 1,000 yen and 10,000 yen (₹600 to ₹6,000 approx) at the time of purchase. No deposit is required.

The Tourist Pasmo can be recharged during the 28-day validity window. But keep in mind that the remaining balance at the end is non-refundable. Pasmo cards are issued by non-JR railway operators in the Tokyo area, but they are accepted on public transportation nationwide that supports IC card payments. This will definitely make it easier for tourists to use this card in many places and help them navigate the country’s extensive public transport network smoothly.
