A global fried chicken icon serving up a chana burger? Sounds improbable. Yet this September, KFC India has pulled off a plot twist no one had on their 2025 bingo card. Enter the Chatpata Chana Burger, a brand-new addition to the menu, and at just ₹69, it’s a shake-up designed to turn heads and satisfy taste buds alike.

So what’s on the plate? A patty made entirely from protein-packed chickpeas, fried golden-crisp and seasoned with a masala mix that leans unapologetically Indian. Add crunchy onions, a tangy sauce, smooth eggless mayo and a seeded bun, and you get something KFC insists is both wholesome and healthy. The idea is simple: who wouldn’t want a burger that fits the Instagram grid and the nutrition checklist without shortchanging on flavour.
“India’s first Chana burger at ₹69, you didn’t expect it from us, and you didn’t expect it at this price point either,” admitted Aparna Bhawal, CMO, KFC India & Partner Countries. “The consumer wants it all today: food that looks great, tastes great, and still feels like a smarter choice. This burger ticks every box. Even die-hard chicken loyalists might be surprised at how much they enjoy it. ‘Veg at KFC’ may sound like a contradiction, but one bite and you’ll know why it belongs here.”

Why Chana In A Chicken-Frenzy Brand?
Diners are leaning toward protein-rich, plant-based alternatives, but they’re not willing to compromise on taste either. The Chatpata Chana Burger is designed to bridge that gap. And to ease the worries of sceptics, KFC points out that its kitchens have long maintained strict separation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian preparation. This bifurcation happens right down to the oils, utensils, and even apron colours (green for veg, red for non-veg).
From today, the burger is rolling out across 1,300+ KFC restaurants in India, available for dine-in, takeaway, and delivery via the brand’s app, website, and partner platforms. Tech-savvy fans can even pre-order on the KFC app while seated at an outlet to skip the line and head straight to their Chatpata Chana fix.

The move also nods to KFC’s heritage of reinvention. Colonel Harland Sanders’ original recipe may still be at the heart of its global success, but with over 26,000 outlets in 145 countries, the brand has shown it can evolve with local tastes. In India, that now means giving vegetarians and adventurous meat-eaters a reason to take a chance on something chickpea-powered.
Where: Multiple Outlets
Cost: ₹69
Whether it wins over chicken purists remains to be seen. But for now, KFC has managed the unthinkable: making a humble chana patty headline-worthy.
