Good news for tourists heading to Lachen! The main road to this popular tourist hub in North Sikkim has reopened after being closed for four months. Locals and tourists can now travel to and from Lachen safely. Here’s what we know about this so far.

Road To Lachen In North Sikkim Reopens After 4 Months

Sitting at an elevation of about 2,750 metres, Lachen is a high-altitude mountain town and tourist destination located in North Sikkim, India. The place is popular among tourists due to its panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks, pine forests, breathtaking waterfalls and deep valleys.

But according to India Today NE, the vital road near the Taramchu Bridge in North Sikkim reopened on August 29. This has once again restored crucial connectivity to Lachen in Mangan district. Reportedly, the Taramchu stretch serves as a vital lifeline connecting Lachen with Chungthang, Mangan and other parts of the district. It was damaged due to natural disasters, which cut off the connectivity.

Lachen Serves As A Gateway To Other Tourist Spots

According to India Today NE, personnel of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) worked continuously for four months to restore the route. Thankfully, the restoration was completed without any problems. The authorities have also assured residents that the government will continue efforts to maintain this crucial connectivity despite the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters.

The reopening of this road is expected to provide significant relief to Lachen, which has faced prolonged connectivity issues due to the area’s difficult terrain. Moreover, the reopening of this route is also considered significant for North Sikkim’s tourism sector.

Lachen serves as a gateway to other tourist hubs such as Gurudongmar Lake (one of the highest lakes in the world) and Chopta Valley. The closure of four months had impacted tourist movement and the lives of small businesses dependent on tourism. This includes homestays, taxi operators, small shops and local guides.
