Thousands of flights were cancelled over the weekend due to heavy snowstorms across the US. According to the National Weather Service, widespread snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to persist through Monday, affecting areas from the southern Rocky Mountains to New England.

More Than 13,000 Flights Cancelled Due To Snowstorm In The US

A massive snowstorm has swept across the US, causing power outages, major roadway disruptions, and flight delays. According to NDTV, around 140 million people have been put under a winter storm warning from New Mexico to New England. President Donald Trump has also approved emergency declarations for around a dozen states, and some more are expected to come.

The snowstorms in the US have also caused the cancellation of more than 13,000 flights between Saturday and Monday, January 26. Air India also cancelled all its flights to and from New York and Newark till January 26.

Taking to X, the airline announced, “A severe winter storm with heavy snow is forecast for New York, New Jersey and adjoining areas in the US East Coast from early Sunday morning to Monday, which will have a significant impact on flight operations. In view of the safety, well-being and convenience of our passengers and crew, all Air India flights to and from New York and Newark have been cancelled on 25 and 26 January.”

According to The Times of India, Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Dallas–Fort Worth airports have seen the largest flight cancellations due to the snowstorms across the US. Austin, Charlotte and Nashville airports also saw significant air travel disruptions, while situations at Washington and New York are expected to get worse.

On Saturday, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines cancelled more than 1,000 flights. According to FlightAware, the Oklahoma airport cancelled all its flights and Dallas–Fort Worth cancelled nearly 1,400 departing and arriving flights due to the snowstorms.

Many airlines are offering rescheduling options to the passengers, while others have arranged for alternate flights to accommodate the affected flyers. Most airlines are offering free rebooking and full refund options as well, so if your travel plans have been affected due to the storm, make sure you check with your airline.
