On March 11, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde inaugurated the first phase of the much-anticipated Mumbai Coastal Road. Just like any other Mumbaikar, Anand Mahindra couldn’t wait to drive and check out the Mumbai Coastal Road between Worli and Marine Drive. So, just a day after its inauguration, he went on a drive on this stretch and was quite impressed! He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his experience and even lauded the construction of the road.

Anand Mahindra Becomes “Tunnel-Tourist” On Mumbai Coastal Road

The first phase of Mumbai Coastal Road is now open to the public. And just like most people, Anand Mahindra seems quite impressed with this engineering marvel! He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his experience. He posted a video of him travelling on the undersea stretch of this road. In the post, he said he was “a ‘tunnel-tourist’ today & checked out the newly minted undersea tunnel that’s part of the new coastal road in Mumbai!”

He went ahead and expressed how he had been “waiting to cruise down” the road and that all the wait “was worth it.” He even applauded the company behind the construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road, Larsen & Toubro.

Know More About The First Phase Of The Newly-Inaugurated Coastal Road

After a long wait, Mumbaikars can now finally travel on the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road. Connecting Worli and Marine Drive, CM Eknath Shinde inaugurated the first phase of the road on March 11. He even flagged off BEST electric buses and a vintage car rally on this road on the inaugural day.

Officially called the Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, the inauguration day of the road coincided with Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s death anniversary. The second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road is likely to be inaugurated by May 2024.

According to the BMC, about 75% of this project is complete. Worth around ₹12,721 crore, this massive infrastructure project will reduce the travel time between Nariman Point and Kandivali to just 40 minutes, from the current 2 hours, once fully operational.
