And such pictures then circulate globally as the internet is mere cheap. It was not a crime until now. UAE government has recently introduced a law that will fine you AED5000 fine and jail for taking pics of accident victims.

Stringent UAE Law System Announces AED5000 Fine

The new law intends to safeguard accident victims’ privacy rights. According to the recently modified UAE Cybercrime Law, taking images of injured or dead individuals in accidents and catastrophes is a punishable criminal offence. It’s either six months in prison or a fine between Dh150,000 and Dh500,000, or both. This new rule took effect on January 2, 2022. This will tackle the issue of capturing photos or films of accident victims. You will serve an AED5000 fine even uploading or sharing them.

Sources claim that everyone who records, broadcasts, or intercepts audio clips, conversations, or chats with others violates their privacy and should face the same penalties.

Editing pictures or footage in order to defame somebody is also considered a punishable offence. This offence will result in a minimum of one year in prison and a fine ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh500,000, or both punishments.
