It’s no secret that it has become mandatory for pilgrims travelling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for have to take vaccinations. Yes, these flu shots that help safeguard them against influenza, is now seeing a spike in demand. Following the advisory by the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention, many hospitals are seeing a spike in demand for this vaccination. Here’s all about it!

Spike In Demand For Influenza Vaccine

As the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention announced mandatory vaccination for Umrah pilgrims. This means that travellers going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah or Hajj will have to present influenza vaccination cards. So now, some hospitals in the UAE are seeing a spike in demand for flu shots, as reported by the Khaleej Times. In fact, following this announcement, Etihad Airways also said that it would now be mandatory for all passengers flying to Jeddah to present their vaccination certificate.

This is especially true for people travelling from Abu Dhabi to Jeddah. However, it’s worth mentioning that this directive does not apply to travellers whose transit journey does not originate in the UAE or to the residents of KSA, holding residency proof. In fact, Air Arabia has also stated that passengers travelling from the UAE to Saudi Arabia for Umrah are recommended to take their flu vaccination before beginning their journey. As such, other airlines are yet to announce such directives.

Hospitals Packed With Pilgrims Seeking Flu Shots

Several UAE hospitals and clinics are packed with Umrah pilgrims, who are getting immunised according to the directive of the Mohap. In fact, the report quoted some hospitals are seeing as many as 50 people visiting for flu shots, on a daily basis. In case you are also wondering about how to get this vaccination it’s actually quite easy.

Hospitals in the UAE have ramped up their efforts, thereby offering adequate supply and streamlining the process. Not to mention, it is recommended that the pilgrims take the vaccine, Influenza Tetra or Influvac at least 10 days before their travel date. This time frame allows the development of optimal immunity.

So, if you are planning to take your religious journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, don’t forget to be immunised before you begin the journey.
