The UAE weather brought a striking mix of rain and intense heat on Thursday, August 13, with thunderstorms and heavy showers reported across parts of Sharjah. At the same time, temperatures in the country crossed the 50°C mark, making it one of the hottest days of the season so far.
Sharjah Sees Rain And Thunderstorms
Heavy rainfall was reported around Maliha in Sharjah’s central region, while thundery showers were also recorded around Madam and areas further west. The rain offered some relief after an extremely hot afternoon.
Clouds also developed along the UAE’s East Coast, with intermittent drizzle reported in some areas. The conditions were linked to moist southeasterly winds moving in from the Arabian Sea.

UAE Temperature Touches 50.9°C
The country’s highest temperature on Thursday reached 50.9°C. It was recorded in Al Faqa in the Al Ain region at 1:30 pm before the same temperature was recorded later in Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafra Region.
The combination of intense daytime heating and moisture from the east helped trigger the towering clouds that commonly develop over the eastern mountains during August.

What To Expect This Weekend
According to the National Centre of Meteorology forecast, Friday is expected to remain fair to partly cloudy, with clouds increasing over northern and eastern areas at night. Light rain is possible through Saturday morning.
Some coastal areas could also turn humid overnight, with a chance of mist. Winds are expected to remain light to moderate but may freshen at times.
Motorists travelling through central and eastern routes have been advised to remain cautious, particularly where rain could reduce visibility. Residents have also been urged to avoid wadis and flood-prone areas during and after rainfall.
