We have all come to depend on technology for our day-to-day needs. Whether it’s your smartphones or smartphone-operated appliances or rather any other device; technology has certainly become an integral part of our lives. However, experts in the UAE are now warning against something called ‘Tech Neck.’ which is basically a chronic neck and back pain that arises from the excessive use of screens. These persistent neck pains cause quite a discomfort and here’s what experts have to say!
What Is Tech Neck?
With the excessive use of phones and laptops, one can develop something called ‘Tech Neck’. This can lead to discomfort in individuals not just in the UAE but people across the world are now facing this problem. People suffering from this often report persistent pain in the upper back and neck. Not to mention, there is restricted motion, headaches, and sometimes even tingling sensations in the arms. According to a report by Khaleej Times, it was mentioned that this condition happens when a person is constantly bent forward or downward. Especially, as they’re looking into their smartphones or any other device for a long period of time without any breaks.
Long-Term Effects When Left Untreated
However, what is scary is the fact that it can also have long-term effects if it is left untreated. Poor posture tends to put excessive strain on the neck. This can therefore lead to severe conditions like disk bulging or even arthritis. However, one can avoid such situations by following simple changes to the way people work. Yes, many people are now seeking chiropractic as the awareness regarding Tech Neck grows.
Simple Exercises To Do At Home
However, you can also prevent techniques without having to seek a chiropractic by doing simple texercises at home.
- You can perform chin tucks, which basically involve pulling your chin back like you’re making a double chin and holding the posture for five seconds
- You can also try doing the shoulder blade squeeze, wherein you need to sit upright and squeeze your shoulder blades together for five seconds. After this, you must release and then repeat it at least 10 times to build strength in your upper back muscles.
Finally, good posture is equally important as you must relax your shoulder every 30 minutes by taking a break and stretching out when working behind the screen for long hours. So, make sure to avoid long-term effects by following simple steps.
