Flying cars have been a dream for decades. Movies, sci-fi novels, and even some futuristic ad campaigns have teased us with the idea of zipping through the skies in a personal vehicle. Well, hold on to your hats (and seatbelts) because the dream is about to take off. Dutch company PAL-V has officially secured the regulatory green light for their Liberty flying car after 12 years of certification, and it’s ready to hit the skies in the UAE by 2027. Yes, you read that right—flying cars. In your lifetime.
What’s the PAL-V Liberty? A Flying Car or A Car That Flies?

So, what exactly is the Liberty? It’s a two-seater, dual-mode vehicle that can seamlessly transition between a car and a gyroplane (that’s a type of flying machine). You’ll start your journey like any normal road trip—cruising along the streets of Dubai, for instance. But, when you hit some congestion or just fancy a change of scenery, you can transform the Liberty into a flying machine and soar above the traffic like a modern-day superhero.
The price tag for this high-flying ride? A cool $799,000. But, considering the convenience it offers in terms of beating traffic and avoiding crowded roads, this price might just feel like a bargain for some. You can expect deliveries in Europe by 2026, followed by a swift landing in the UAE.
From The Netherlands To The Skies Of Dubai

The Liberty will be built in the Netherlands and undergo 100 hours of “verification flying” in early 2026 before being available to customers. PAL-V isn’t just aiming for the skies—they’re strategically targeting the UAE as their launch pad for the Middle East, thanks to the region’s love for luxury transportation and the sandy terrains that the Liberty is specifically designed to handle.
Thanks to their partnership with Jetex, a key aviation player in the UAE, PAL-V will begin showcasing the Liberty with demo flights around Dubai in 2026 while also setting up training centres for those eager to get behind the wheel (or controls). But to fly the thing, you’ll need a private pilot’s license. Oh, and a driving licence too. PAL-V is offering an expedited training program for those who can’t afford to waste time—looking at you, busy entrepreneurs.
Why The UAE Is The Perfect Market

Why launch a flying car in the UAE? Well, aside from the region’s endless skies and wide open desert spaces, the Liberty is designed with those very elements in mind. It’s built to handle the sand and dust that often makes life difficult for normal vehicles. Plus, the UAE is no stranger to innovative transportation, making it the perfect testing ground for this futuristic concept.
At AED 69.04 million, the Liberty offers a unique alternative to helicopters, which can easily cost millions.
