Union Budget 2023-24. Govt Holds Mandatory Halwa Ceremony, Here’s What You Need To Know

On January 26, 2023, the Halwa ceremony was held in North Block, New Delhi to mark the final stage of the Union Budget 2023-2024. Every year, the ceremony takes place prior to the budget’s lock-in process. Previously, the ceremony signalled the start of printing of budget-related documents. The Union Budget is now paperless like the previous two budgets, and will be released in the form of the Union Budget Mobile App.

How Is Halwa Ceremony Celebrated?

The Union Finance Ministry celebrates the marking of the Union Budget’s final stage with the Halwa ceremony. It takes place at the headquarters of the Finance Ministry in New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman commenced the celebration by churning the halwa inside the huge kadhai and then distributing the traditional dessert among the staff involved in the budget. Finance Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan, Secretary of Revenue Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary of Economic Affairs Shri Ajay Seth and other dignitaries were also part of the ceremony.

Union Budget 2023-24 Presentation To Take Place On February 1

The presentation of the Union Budget 2023-2024 will take place on February 1, 2023. The Union Budget comprises 14 documents, including Annual Financial Statement, Finance Bill and Demand for Grants. All these documents will be released on the mobile application. The Members of the Parliament as well as the general public can access the budget from the app easily. One can download the app from the web portal of Union Budget as well as Android and iOS platforms. The information will be available in two languages- English and Hindi.
