From Dubai’s New Bridge To Oman’s Mango Season Boom, 5 GCC Updates

A lot is happening around the Gulf this week. Some of it affects daily traffic and travel plans. Then there’s Oman, somehow turning mango season into a proper community attraction. Here’s a quick look at the GCC updates people are talking about right now.

5 GCC Updates For You

1. Dubai Drivers Are Saving Six Minutes On This New Route

Anyone who regularly drives around the Dubai World Trade Centre area knows traffic there can test your patience very quickly. Now, Roads and Transport Authority, better known as RTA, has opened a new 500-metre bridge aimed at easing congestion near the World Trade Centre roundabout. The bridge mainly helps vehicles coming from Al Bada’ towards 2nd December Street, Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mustaqbal Street. Journeys that used to take around eight minutes may now take roughly two. The bridge can handle around 1,200 vehicles every hour and forms part of a wider road development project tied to the city’s continued growth.

2. UAE Weather Is Staying Hot, Dusty And Slightly Annoying

Meanwhile, the weather across the UAE is doing that familiar summer transition thing again. The National Centre of Meteorology says dusty winds are expected in several inland areas this week, with stronger northwesterly and southwesterly winds potentially reducing visibility at times. Temperatures may climb up to 42°C in internal regions too. Also, humidity is creeping back during nights and early mornings, especially in northern coastal areas where fog or mist could appear. This is basically the annual reminder that summer is fully arriving now.

3. Oman’s Mango Season Is Becoming A Bigger Deal

Over in Qurayat, mango season is drawing large crowds again. But this is not only about fruit anymore. Officials are now discussing larger agricultural investment plans, including four proposed development sites under Oman’s latest five-year economic strategy. Preparations are also underway for a refreshed mango and agricultural products exhibition aimed at supporting local farmers and businesses. Locals say areas like Hail Al Ghaf continue attracting attention because of their farming conditions and produce quality.

4. Doha-Nagpur Flights Are Back, But Tickets Cost More Now

After more than two months, direct Qatar Airways flights between Doha and Nagpur are finally resuming from May 21. The route had been paused during rising tensions in the Gulf region earlier this year. Flights are returning because demand has started climbing again. But passengers may notice much higher fares now, especially in business class, where some tickets have crossed Rs 1 lakh. Also, flight timings have shifted slightly, though services will continue operating five days weekly.

5. Oman’s Sultan Receives Major Arab Cultural Honour

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has also been awarded the Supreme Class of the Arab Cultural Excellence Medal by ALECSO. The recognition highlights efforts tied to Arab culture, knowledge and intellectual development across the region. An official ceremony is expected to take place in Tunis this week.

That’s all for this week’s GCC Updates. We will be back with a fresh batch tomorrow!
