‘Unseasonal’ Snowfall Has Turned North India Into A Gorgeous Wonderland With Insta-Worthy Views

March in North India means summers! But this year, ever since the month has began, there have been untimely spells of rains, hailstorm and snowfall. But we are not complaining… why? Because it converted the upper reaches of North India into a beautiful wonderland with breathtaking views.

Where Is It Snowing?

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh received fresh snowfall this week. In fact, even certain regions in Himachal wore a white blanket as a fresh layer of snow covered the pine trees. That’s not all.

Closer to Delhi, tourists in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand were also in a for a surprise when they were greeted with untimely and unexpected snow. Punjab, Haryana and Delhi also received heavy rainfall, and Lucknow and Jaipur witnessed a hailstorm!

In view of these, orange alert has been issued over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan; and a yellow watch over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Orange alert means that residents and visitors need to ‘be prepared’ for rough weather, whereas yellow alert means that the people need to ‘be aware’.

What Does It Mean For The Travellers

You get to witness fresh snow!! Most travel plans are now being cancelled, but if you are looking at going for a quick getaway, then mountains might be a good idea. While the lower regions demand not wearing a jacket and roaming around in a half-sleeved t-shirt, the upper regions are making it feel like December, even now.

Due to cleaning of snow-covered roads, and landslides, there are numerous road-blocks and highway closures. We suggest you take that into consideration and research well while making plans to visit these places.

So, if you missed witnessing fresh snowfall this winter season, there is a very high possibility that if you travel to Jammu, or Mussoorie or, the upper reaches of Himachal, you might get lucky.
