Mumbai, the City of Dreams, opens its arms to everyone. The fast-paced life, quick vada pav with cutting chai on the go, catching the 9:05 AM local, sitting on Marine Drive, and more seem appealing to aspiring individuals. However, there are pros and cons of every city! Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, highlighted the same about Mumbai with our recent Sundowner at Shifuku guest and Internet personality, Uorfi Javed. Kyuki, “Ae dil hai mushkil jeena yaha, zara hat ke zara bach ke, ye hai Bambai meri jaan.”
Uorfi Javed’s Initial Struggle Of Shifting To Mumbai
After a good cocktail session with the fabulous Uorfi, we shifted our conversations to Mumbai. Hailing from Lucknow, Mumbai was a completely different world for her. Yet, she felt at home the minute she landed in this city! She has been in Mumbai for around eight to nine years and has accepted the city and vice versa.
Uorfi resided in Versova village where her neighbours were fisherperson. Hence, the area was a fish market with the narrowest lanes. She revealed that she stayed with five to six girls in a 1bhk room for one to two years.
She recalled how messy and congested sharing a room with that many people was in the village area. On top of that, there were constant fights and drama. She told us the rent would come down to ₹3000-₹4000 per person which was within her budget, so she stayed there. Uorfi Javed now lives in a lavish flat with her sisters in Mumbai. Talk about growth, fame and success!

Her Initial Thoughts On Mumbaikars
“I love Bombay, not the food, but I like Bombay for some reason, the vibes are amazing and the people here are way better,” the fashionista told us. Uorfi’s initial thought about Mumbaikars was that they were a little harsh. She elaborated that folks here use the word ‘tu’ to address someone instead of ‘aap’, unlike in Lucknow.
Slowly, she realised that this was the normal way of conversing here. She made peace with being addressed as ‘tu’ as she said, “That’s how they speak and they are the most amazing people ever!”
Uorfi Javed also revealed her love for the popular Mumbai street food snack, vada pav! As a Lucknow girlie, it was a bit hard for her to like this dish but she finally gave in! Check out the entire video to hear her rave about Mumbai’s vada pav.
