US Retailer Walmart To Turn 160 Parking Lots Into Drive-In Theatres

Going to movies and snacking on that buttery popcorn is missed by all! While we may think that it’s not okay to go for flicks amid the global pandemic, Walmart believes it’s time for us to go to the movies again! But this time in a different way. The retail giant has announced its partnership with Tribeca Film Festival to turn 160 Walmart parking lots into drive-in movie theatres.

Walmart Will Showcase Various Popular Movies Only Through October

Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s chief customer officer, told a leading channel,

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months. We wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories. The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”

In terms of movies, the drive-in theatre will be showcasing some of our favourite movies, including Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Wonder Woman, Space Jam, Spy Kids, etc. The drive-in will not just be about flicks. It’s further reported that a few stars are expected to show up in-person or virtually as well. Now ain’t that cool?

The Event Is Strictly Labelled As Family-Friendly

Tickets to the movies are free, and the pop-up is only valid through October. You have to reserve the tickets before the night and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Speaking about the drive-in concept, Walmart also explains that everyone needs to bring their car and wear masks anytime they are outside the vehicle. The event is also strictly labelled as family-friendly- meaning no alcohol is permitted on the premises.
