Devotees, take note. The much-awaited Char Dham Yatra 2026 is all set to begin soon. It will coincide with the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. One of the most important and sacred pilgrimages for Hindus, the yatra covers Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Here’s everything you need to know about the yatra, from dates to registration details and more.
Char Dham Yatra 2026 To Start Soon
Every year in India’s Garhwal Himalayas, the sacred Char Dham Yatra takes place. Devotees visit the four holy sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These shrines are not only deeply spiritual but also bring a sense of peace to pilgrims. The word ‘Char’ means four, while ‘Dham’ refers to religious destinations located at high altitudes. These shrines remain closed for nearly six months every year. They usually open during the summer (April or May) and close with the onset of winter (October or November).
It is believed that devotees should complete the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction. This is why the pilgrimage starts from Yamunotri, then moves to Gangotri, on to Kedarnath, before finally ending at Badrinath. According to a report by Times Now, the Char Dham Yatra 2026 is set to begin on April 19.
