Char Dham Yatra 2026: Uttarakhand Introduces New Health & Travel Guidelines For Pilgrims

Char Dham Yatra is all set to begin from April 19, 2026. Ahead of this, the Government of Uttarakhand has introduced new health and travel guidelines for pilgrims. Keep in mind that these new protocols are mandatory and important for a safe pilgrimage. Keep reading to know everything about it.

New Health Protocols Introduced Ahead Of Char Dham Yatra 2026

The doors to the four Himalayan temples are all set to open with the Char Dham Yatra. Now, the Uttarakhand government has officially rolled out new health protocols along with travel guidelines for yatris planning this journey in 2026. According to Republic World, these guidelines not only make the pilgrimage safer but also help prevent high-altitude illnesses.

The latest rules introduce mandatory health screenings and strict travel checks. All pilgrims are now required to undergo a physical medical check-up before starting their journey. These checks are especially important for pilgrims above the age of 55 and for those with a history of diabetes, hypertension, asthma, or heart disease. Reportedly, 31 health check-up centres and 20 Medical Relief Posts (MRPs) have been set up along the main trekking routes of the yatra.

No Vehicles Can Operate On Yatra Route After 10 PM

According to Republic World, pilgrims will also be asked to submit a medical fitness certificate or undergo on-the-spot screening. These rules ensure that they are fit to handle reduced oxygen levels at altitudes exceeding 10,000 feet. Apart from this, Uttarakhand has also released a ‘Swasth, Satarak, Safal’ advisory. It urges devotees to spend at least 24-48 hours in Haridwar and Rishikesh before heading to higher altitudes.

The advisory also asks pilgrims to carry a portable oximeter, avoid caffeine, and stick to warm water and a well-balanced, high-energy diet. Furthermore, the state transport department has also introduced a strict ban on vehicle movement on Char Dham routes after 10 pm. This means that the vehicles will only be allowed between 4 am and 10 pm. This rule aims to prevent accidents due to low visibility and landslides. Moreover, all commercial and private vehicles will undergo technical fitness tests.

The Char Dham Yatra will begin on April 19 with the opening of Gangotri Temple and Yamunotri Temple. Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple will open on April 22 and April 23, respectively.
