As per Free Press Journal, also known as the ‘Himalayan Mahakumbh’, the yatra holds deep religious and cultural significance for devotees.
The Nanda Devi Badi Jat is a 280-km religious journey. It is dedicated to Goddess Nanda Devi, who is considered the main or guardian goddess of Uttarakhand. The yatra is deeply connected to the traditions and folklore of the Garhwal Himalayas. Devotees from different villages join the journey and follow traditional rituals and customs.

What Is The Importance Of This Yatra?
The yatra symbolises Goddess Nanda Devi’s journey from her maternal home to her husband’s home in the high Himalayas. Through this sacred journey, devotees also celebrate the region’s traditional music, customs and community spirit.
As per The Free Press Journal, this year, the yatra will have 26 stops. It will begin from Nanda Dham Kurur (Kurud) in Chamoli district and move towards its first stop at Charbang village. It is expected to reach Van village on September 16, which is considered the village of the deity’s brother-in-law.
