We all have at least once been on a train journey and bought food from the vendors in the train. Many passengers have bought food and drinks from these vendors in the trains and have been overcharged for the same. A lot of them have complained about it to railway officials and still the complaints have been reaching them. In the view of this, IRCTC has come up with this new facility to prevent passengers from being overcharged.
IRCTC Vendors Cannot Overcharge Anymore
In premium trains like Rajdhani, Tejas, Shatabdi, etc. the catering services are already booked by the passengers at the time of booking the ticket which saves them from being overcharged. In such trains passengers are also given the facility or order food or drinks with the help of a pantry car. The other trains however do not have the pantry system and therefore the IRCTC vendors sell food and drinks in the train taking it from the base kitchen. In these cases, it seldom happens that the vendors tend to charge over and above the price from the passengers, especially due to cash transactions. So to tackle this, IRCTC has now printed a QR code on the menu itself.

QR Code To The Rescue
In view of the number of complaints received for overcharging by vendors for food and drinks, IRCTC has decided to use QR code as the solution. IRCTC has printed QR codes on the menu card itself so that passengers can pay the exact amount. For the convenience of the passengers, the vendors will also wear a QR code card so that the passengers don’t have to ask for one. The passenger simply has to decide what they have to buy, scan the QR code and there the payment is done without any hassle or the fear of being overcharged. This new system will be applied across all IRCTC trains and in fact, the implementation has already begun in Sampoorna Kranti Express.
