A huge fire broke out in a residential tower in Sharjah’s in Nahda area on Tuesday evening, 5 May. The 48-storey tower where the fire broke out at is called Abcco Tower. Social media was abuzz with videos and pictures of the horrid incident. Firefighters managed to control the fire and no casualties were reported. However, seven people were treated for injuries at the site while five others were rushed to the hospital due to breathlessness.

The Sharjah Civil Defence arrived shortly after the incident broke out. Drones were used to monitor the situation. Thanks to the quick and efficient work of firefighters, the blaze was brought under control at 11.55pm.
More than 250 families were evacuated from the 48-storey building, which had 36 residential flats and 20 levels of car parking. Residents from the neighboring buildings were also evacuated immediately.

The fire also damaged a number of cars parked in the area. There have been no reports of the cause of the fire as yet.
