Recently, a flight was delayed so long that people began eating on the runway.

Flight delays are one of the worst experiences of air travel. It is a bit bearable when the delay is for a short time but people’s frustration and anger increase with time. Recently, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Goa was delayed for a long time. Not only did passengers claim that it was delayed for more than 12 hours but the plane was diverted in between as well.

According to videos shared on social media, the 6E2195 flight took off late from Goa. Instead of landing in Delhi, the flight diverted its destination due to fog in Delhi and landed at the Mumbai airport. Firstly the humongous delay and then the change in destination angered everyone on board.

Rajdeep Sardesai (@sardesairajdeep) shared a video of passengers at the Mumbai airport’s runway.

After landing at the Mumbai airport, the passengers came out of the flight. There was a bus waiting to take the passengers to Terminal 1 but no one agreed to travel on that, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Passengers were frustrated by all these inconveniences and horrible experiences. Tired of the delay and the route diversion, they simply took the food packets, sat near the flight on the tarmac, and began having their dinner.

The harrowing experience came to an end on Monday when the flight finally departed at 2:39 AM. IndiGo released a Press Statement mentioning how they are aware of everything that happened with the IndiGo flight from Goa to Delhi on January 14. The reason to divert the aircraft to Mumbai was because of fog and low visibility conditions in Delhi. IndiGo apologised for the inconvenience and stated about taking steps to avoid such incidents in the future.

Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a show cause notice to the airline and the Mumbai International Airport. Following the incident of passengers sitting on the tarmac began surfacing on social media, the notice was issued.

Jyotiraditya M. Scindia tweeted how Delhi was covered in fog on January 14 and the visibility fluctuated for several hours.

The authorities had to pause the flight operations due to poor weather conditions and fog-induced disruptions, keeping safety in mind. He also shared some steps that have been taken to mitigate such situations and inconveniences in the future.

Here’s how Netizens reacted to the incident of flyers sitting on the tarmac.
