A rare 4.8 magnitude earthquake that shook New York City on Friday was recorded by the surveillance camera atop the Statue of Liberty. It was an amazing experience. Millions of people were shaken by the exceptionally strong earthquake in the area. The unusually strong earthquake shocked millions of people in New York and Philadelphia. The earthquake caused no extensive damage but rather startled a region not used to earthquakes. “One of the largest earthquakes on the East Coast in the last century,” according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, was felt.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that on Friday, a mild earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck New York City, with its epicentre located in the nearby state of New Jersey. In Brooklyn buildings shook, rattling cupboard doors and fixtures Following the earthquake, a Security Council meeting at the UN’s New York headquarters regarding the situation in Gaza was momentarily suspended. People on social media reported feeling the tremor from Long Island eastward and from Philadelphia up to New York. On its X account, the famous Empire State Building posted, “I AM FINE.”

Another widely circulated photo shows the Statue of Liberty struck by lightning during a storm. Photographer Dan Martin captured this amazing picture, which appears to show a lightning bolt touching Lady Liberty’s torch.  Lady Liberty is struck by lightning multiple times a year, so she’s used to getting zapped. Although the precise amount is unknown, she is a prime target due to her height and copper coating, which conducts electricity.

Truly, this majestic monument found itself at the mercy of the elements in a breathtaking encounter with the forces of nature—a lightning strike that illuminated the sky and captured the imagination of the world.
