Sanjay Dutt Opens Up About Govinda, David Dhawan & 90s Cinema During A Fan Interaction

Sanjay Dutt recently appeared on Sunday Brunch, the food-meets-celebrity-chat show helmed by our editor-in-chief Kamiya Jani. Over a table laid with soup, chilli chicken, and smoky tandoori chicken, Dutt shed his larger-than-life screen image to reveal a man brimming with anecdotes, nostalgia, and characteristic wit.

Sanjay Dutt Gets Candid And How!

What followed was more than just brunch; it was a freewheeling conversation peppered with laughter, culinary indulgence, and moments of reflection that reminded audiences why Dutt continues to be one of Bollywood’s most enduring personalities.

Towards the end of the episode, a surprise screen popped up. Antariksh, a lucky fan joined them via video call, and got the opportunity to ask Bollywood’s Baba some questions. With the reverence of a true 90s Bollywood fan, he declared that there were only two legendary pairings in that era: Akshay Kumar with Suniel Shetty in the action space and Sanjay Dutt with Govinda in the world of comedy. He spoke of watching Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Jodi No. 1, and Ek Aur Ek Gyarah multiple times a year, almost ritualistically. Dutt, one to never miss a beat, responded with mock indignation: “But I’ve done so many action films too! Mujhe uss genre se kyun nikaal raha hai?” His tone was laced with humour, and it sent laughter across the room.

Baba Gets Candid About Bond With Govinda And David Dhawan

The conversation naturally veered towards Sanjay Dutt’s partnerships with Govinda and filmmaker David Dhawan, relationships that shaped a substantial part of 90s Hindi cinema. “With both of them, it’s an extraordinary bond,” Sanjay Dutt said in his candid demeanour.

On Dhawan, he spoke of the ease that set in the moment they started filming, calling their collaborations instinctive and effortless. But it was his tribute to Govinda that sent people back to the larger-than-life world of the 90s in a second. “Nobody can outdo him in comedy,” he said, adding that the real magic lay in contrast: Govinda would go loud, Dutt would play dumb, and somewhere in between, peak comedy happened.
