For this episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani enjoyed a Sunday breakfast instead of an elaborate Sunday brunch! She was immersed in politics, Mumbai, history, food, and more such interesting topics as she was in conversation with the leader and founder of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Raj Thackeray, and his son, Amit Thackeray. We visited their stunning home at Shivaji Park in Dadar to engage in a fantastic, “no-nonsense” interview session.

A Game Of ‘This Or That’ With Raj Thackeray And Amit Thackeray

The clock was ticking and it was time for a hearty and traditional Maharashtrian breakfast. The table was filled with sheera, sabudana vada, upma, khichdi, dadpe pohe, and many other food items. A massive feast awaited us, and as foodies, we couldn’t contain our hunger and excitement any longer.

While gorging on delectable food, we played a fun game of ‘This Or That’ with the foodie father-son duo. Kamiya gave them food choices and they had to pick their favourites out of the two. She began with pithla bhakri or sabudana khichdi and both went with Sabudana khichdi.

The next one was between Modak and Puran Poli. Without wasting a second, the Thackerays chose Puran Poli. Then it was between batata vada and kanda vada; the duo again chose batata vada. They said that Raj sir is fond of spicy food while his son loves sweet flavours. However, despite having extremely opposite taste palates, their answers were the same!

Lastly, we asked them to choose between vada pav and misal pav, the two most popular street foods in Maharashtra. Turns out, Raj sir has specific favourite spots for both the dishes and it depends on that factor. He didn’t choose the pav dishes and instead, gave us a plethora of recommendations in Mumbai.

His favourite spicy misal pav is from Thane’s Mamledar Misal. For Vada Pav, he likes to indulge in Dadar’s famous Ashok Vada Pav. To learn about the rest of the recommendations for vada pav and misal pav, watch the video linked above.
