West Bengal To Make Long Distance Buses More Comfortable with Food, Newspapers & Wi-Fi

A typical morning in a Bengali household doesn’t start without a cup of tea and the day’s newspaper. And now West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) is bringing the facility to long-distance buses as well. Starting August 5, 2021, WBTC will provide travellers of  Volvo AC buses on the Esplanade-Bolpur-Suri route with a newspaper room comprising ten newspapers in three languages- Bengali, English and Hindi. To make the journey more comfortable for the passengers, the buses will also provide free 500ml drinking water bottles. Additional bottles are chargeable. Along with these, there will also be a food corner consisting of snacks like chips and biscuits. Read on to know more.

Long-Distance Buses To Provide Newspaper Room And Food Corner For Passengers

According to The Hindu report, WBTC Managing Director Rajanvir Singh Kapur said, “The whole idea is to make the journey a little comfortable.” As per reports, there are plans to extend the services to Volvo AC buses plying on all long routes including Digha, Bolpur, Mayapur and Bakkhali. The newspapers will help passengers of all ages, even who aren’t much tech-savvy, to update themselves with the latest news on the go. Also, people travelling in long-distance buses usually need to wait for the bus to halt to buy cakes, biscuits, chips and other snacks. Now, these will be available right within the buses in the food corners.

The Buses Will Soon Have Wi-fi Too

Kapur added that plans are there to launch free Wi-fi in all long-route buses, including AC Volvo buses. This will help passengers to have a steady network even when the bus is travelling through remote areas. You might watch a web series without those annoying buffers while on your journey. Earlier in 2021,  the WBTC had introduced a daily travel pass costing ₹100 to allow unlimited travel in Kolkata’s buses, trams and ferries.
