As India continues to grapple with the dreaded second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, good samaritans have come forward to help those in need. Travel agents from Kerala converted their vans into ambulances to ferry patients for free. Delhi launched auto ambulances fitted with oxygen cylinders. And now, West Bengal’s first woman e-rickshaw driver has started offering free rides to Covid patients. Residing in the Saktigarh area of Siliguri, 49-year-old Munmun Sarkar provides 24/7 services for anyone in need.
Munmun Sarkar Converted Her E-Rickshaw Into An Ambulance
Munmun Sarkar is West Bengal’s, first woman e-rickshaw driver. Hailing from the Saktigarh area of Siliguri, Munmun has joined the force to help Covid patients in need. She offers her services 24/7 for any patient in need. The 49-year-old woman drives patients to the hospital and brings them back too if the need arises. She revealed to ANI that last year, ambulance drivers charged a lot of money from family members of Covid patients. That’s when Munmun decided to transform her e-rickshaw into an ambulance and started ferrying Covid positive patients free of cost.

She Ferried Over 5000 Covid Positive Patients Till Date For Free
The Covid warrior informed ANI that she also sanitises the homes of Covid positive patients. Apart from this Munmun Sarkar also sanitises crematoriums, police stations and places of worship. Munmun revealed to the news agency that while driving patients to the hospital, she realised the importance of sanitisation to combat Covid-19. She also received a sanitising machine, as a gift and that made her work easier. Munmun wishes to do something that will be remembered even after she dies. And she has ferried around 5000 patients. Her determination and selflessness have helped scores of Covid patients in West Bengal. We salute her!
