The Green Riyadh Project aims to raise the total green spaces by planting trees around the city. Moreover, the green scape around the city will be watered with recycled water through an extensive irrigation network system. And to bring this dream to fruition, the construction work for laying down 1,350 km of waterpipes is already underway. Green Riyadh Project is definitely one of the most ambitious urban forestation projects in the world. One of the four megaprojects in Riyadh, this project was launched in 2019. And recently, it was reported by Arab News that 1,350 kilometres of water pipes are being laid down to carry 1.7 million cubic meters of treated water daily. Yes, the report mentioned that this mammoth quantity of water will be used for irrigating 7.5 million trees in the city! With the aim of achieving sustainable green spaces in the capital city, it’s worth mentioning that the construction has already begun. Moreover, this is being done with the help of the latest technology and practices to speed up the work.

As mentioned above, this project began two years ago, and now that it’s in the construction phase, the work is happening everywhere in the city at the moment. Additionally, this water network will also serve projects, which include the Public Investment Fund, Diryah Gate, Development Authority, Sports Boulevard, the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Scheme, and King Salman Park. Since recycled water has very limited use, this water will be utilised in several neighbourhoods and mega projects of the city. Doesn’t it all sound absolutely grand? We can already imagine how fantastic it’s going to be on completion!

So, with the construction already underway, one can expect that the Green Riyadh Project is certainly going to change the face of the city.
