Surfing is emerging as one of the most loved and popular water sports in India presently. And with numerous beaches and over 8000 km of coastline, there are abundant places to explore surfing or take surfing lessons in India. Even after having such a huge coastline or innumerable beaches, the waves are not appropriate for surfing every time. To surf, you have to be at the place at a proper time. With that being said, here’s a guide for you if you are an amateur and want to take surfing lessons in India.

1. Goa

One thing common among all of us is that the first place that comes to our mind after hearing about beaches is ‘Goa’. This tiny state is the perfect place for partying, relaxing, sightseeing, and also exploring water activities. Goa’s coastline has some places where beginners can take up lessons for this adventurous sport. The Ashwem to Arambol stretch is a great spot from October to April for surfing. You can learn from ‘Surf Wala’ at the Southern end, ‘Banana Surf’ on Baga beach, and Aloha Surf on the Agonda beach.

2. Mahabalipuram

Mahabalipuram is a popular place in Karnataka for surfing. The perfect time to learn surfing here is from June to September. You can surf in the most perfect waves during these quarter months. ‘Mumu Surf School’ is the most famous school in the place for taking up surfing lessons. They provide coaching professionally in fun methods.

3. Varkala 

The first name that tops the list while searching for surfing schools in Kerala is ‘Soul and Surf’ in Varkala, Kerala. They are providing classes since 2010 in Varkala Beach. In fact, Soul and Surf is a hotel that offers yoga lessons too. You can combine both the lessons if you want to explore both. The school is open from October to mid-May; 7 days a week.

4. Little Andaman

The Andaman Islands are extremely famous for advanced surfing lessons in India. The experience of surfing in Little Andaman is extremely thrilling as you get to witness the best waves around Butler Bay Beach. There are innumerable surfing camps around this beach. ‘A&N Surf Academy’ and ‘Mantra Surf Club’ are some popular ones for learning from the best.

5. Mulki 

It is said that Mulki is the home to India’s first-ever surf school. The name is ‘Mantra Surf Club’ and it started back in 2004. Nestled almost half an hour to the North of Mangalore, Mulki offers lessons on this uncrowded beach. The best part is that the waves are perfect for beginners almost throughout the year. Apart from surfing, you can even learn and explore other water sports here.
