The royal procession of Naga Sadhus has a special significance in the Puranas. The tale dates back to Shiva-Parvati’s wedding and Samudra Manthan. According to News18, when Lord Shiva left Mount Kailash to marry Goddess Parvati, his grand wedding procession included all the deities, Gandharvas, Yakshas, and saints. However, the Naga Sadhus, very dear devotees of Lord Shiva, were in deep meditation at that time and had no clue about their wedding.

When the couple returned to Kailash, the Naga Sadhus expressed their sorrow and cried out in front of their Lord. Seeing this, Lord Shiva promised them that soon they would also get the opportunity to take out a royal procession. This opportunity occurred when the first Maha Kumbh was held after the Samudra Manthan. This royal procession of Naga Sadhus holds cultural and spiritual significance. It is believed that watching this grand procession is very auspicious and is a symbol of spirituality and devotion in Hinduism.
