It is only the second week of December and Jammu and Kashmir is freezing already. Winter season made a grand entry to the valley some time ago and all its places are witnessing harsh weather conditions already. With the onset of chilling winter this season, Srinagar just recorded the coldest night. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir saw the temperature dropping to -4.6°C.

Srinagar Saw The Coldest Night Of The Ongoing Winter Season

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, PriNce__🍁 (@Painfultales_) shared how the Srinagar froze at -4.6°C and Shopian witnessed the temperature settle at -5.9°C.

On Saturday, the officials shared about Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season so far. It was on Friday night when the temperature decreased from what was recorded on Thursday night. On December 7, the temperature was at -2.4°C during the night. And it changed and decreased to -4.6°C later, according to a report by News 18. Officials stated how the weather dropped below the freezing point on Friday night.

Not just Srinagar, but more villages, towns, and cities in Jammu and Kashmir experienced a temperature drop and an increase in severe winter chills. Here are all the details about the latest weather updates in different places in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • In Kokernag, the temperature was as -2.3°C.
  • Qazigund saw the temperature dropping to -2.8°C.
  • Kupwara witnessed -3°C.
  • Just like Srinagar, Gulmarg also witnessed a decrease in the temperature. It was -4.2°C on Friday night. The weather changed a bit in comparison to Thursday night. On the night of December 7, Gulmarg reported -3°C.
  • The minimum temperature in Pahalgam was at -5°C. According to the recent changes in weather and the decrease in temperature in different parts of the valley, Pahalgam recorded the coldest temperature.

Last night was the first in this winter season when the residents came outside together to light a fire in small areas and get warm with the heat from the fire. In fact, many water pipes froze last night with the dip in temperature in Srinagar, according to a report by Zee Business.

What Does The Weather Forecast State?

Looks like this is just the beginning of Jammu and Kashmir getting cold and frozen up this winter season. Just like any other year, the temperature is expected to decrease to some extent in the next few days, especially during the night and late hours. The weather predictions state that the temperature will decrease by some degrees at night for the next few days. There are expectations for the weather to remain dry in the next 2 days. The meteorological office also added that there are also chances for the weather to be cloudy in some places as well.

After a couple of days of dry weather, the valley is expected to witness some rainfall or snowfall starting from December 12 to the next few days. The predictions state that the weather may change in the higher altitude locations till December 15.
