What Is It?

Marked with a 21 gun salute, this day, 165 years ago, the first Passenger Train in India shuttled between Mumbai CSMT (the then Bori Bunder) and Thane!

It was hauled by Sahin, Sindh and Sultan, the 3 locomotives of the 14 carriage train with 400 passengers aboard.

What Else?

Trains in India were already in motion much before 1853 but it was a first for a passenger train.
