The cave shrine of Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir reopened its doors to pilgrims from August 16, after staying shut for five months due to the coronavirus pandemic. While many pilgrims have already started visiting the shrine, we have come across the story of someone whose profound devotion has touched the hearts of many. A 68-year-old woman, Rekha Devbhankar, has been cycling all the way from Maharashtra to the Vaishno Devi shrine. Reportedly, she had started her bicycle journey on July 24. The brave lady travels a distance of 40 kilometres in the day and doesn’t ride in the dark. Read on to know more.

Aaji Cycles To Vaishno Devi; Travels 40 Kilometres A Day

Devotion can make people go to great extents, just like covering nearly 2200 kilometres on a bicycle to reach Jammu and Kashmir’s Vaishno Devi from Maharashtra. Rekha Devbhankar, a resident of Maharashtra, who is 68-years-old had started her journey on a bicycle on July 24 to reach Vaishno Devi. She travels a distance of 40km in the day and does not travel at night. Her incredible mission caught the attention of many and an user named Ratan Sharda uploaded her video on Twitter, stating, “A 68-year-old Marathi lady is going to Vaishnodevi on her own, alone, by geared cycle. 2200 km from Khamgaon. Mother’s power”. The video has been uploaded on October 19, and in three days it had garnered around 26,000 likes and 7600 comments. Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl from Kerala had cooked 33 dishes in 1 hour and created records.

Age Is Just A Number!

The netizens lauded the determination of the old lady and ushered her with a lot of praises. One user wrote, “This is so inspiring. Aaji, you are truly amazing. But Aaji, please take care of yourself. Your true spirit will surely make you win this difficult task. Your face reflects your determination and there is not a single per cent of tiredness. We all need to learn this perseverance Aaji.” Another user tweeted, “Reaching the destination by cycling is her ultimate resolve we should support her through another means…. Like taking care of her fooding, night shelter and keeping track of her till she reaches Vaishnodevi”
