Today is World Tourism Day and the theme for this year is ‘Tourism and Peace.’ This special day is celebrated globally to honour and emphasise this sector’s impeccable contribution to the economy, building connections, cultural effects, and more. Rajeev Kale, President & Country Head of Holidays, MICE, and Visa at Thomas Cook (India) Limited, revealed that India is expected to witness an international tourist footfall of 30.5 million yearly by 2030. Also, the travel sector will likely report a growth rate of 9.6 per cent by 2028. India is home to magnificent natural beauty, rich history and heritage, and evolving infrastructure and all these come together to offer one-of-a-kind experiences.

S.D. Nandakumar, President and Country Head – Holidays and Corporate Tours, SOTC Travel Limited, emphasised how the travel industry is reporting a great evolution. From a surge in solo travel to tourists’ fascination with unique experiences, travellers are looking for new and customised preferences. There is a rise in wellness retreats and sustainable tourism options as well. India has the perfect capabilities to emerge “as a premier travel destination and contribute to a legacy of global harmony.”

Dharamveer Singh Chouhan, Zo World’s Co-Founder and CEO, shared the potential of travelling. It is not just about visiting one place from another. DUDigital Global CEO Manoj Dharmani shared his thoughts on World Tourism Day. He spoke about the potential of tourism in creating an association to promote peace between nations and cultures. It contributes to improving living standards with better jobs and revenue sources. “Tourism can become a powerful tool for promoting long-term stability, environmental sustainability, and peaceful coexistence between visitors and host communities,” he further added.

General Manager of Finnair in India Anupam Vig shared that World Tourism Day symbolises the importance of the tourism industry to open doors for job opportunities and boost cultural exchange. Travelling offers a beautiful chance for communities to share their traditions and stories encouraging a connection between diverse cultures.

Taking about responsible tourism, he added how aviation emissions contribute to global warming. It is important to decrease fossil carbon emissions to travel on flights in the future. Finnair aims to fasten the process of “aviation’s transition away from fossil fuels,” according to the airline’s official quote. The airline submitted its new climate target to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for validation.
