An X (formerly Twitter) user recently posted pictures of passengers opting to sit and sleep on the floor at the Delhi Airport despite several empty seats. The reason was quite simple—the airport lacks comfortable seats and sleeping facilities. The post garnered a lot of attention online, and many netizens agreed with him.
Passengers At Delhi Airport Wait For Delayed Late-Night Flight On Floor
Our airports should be equipped with sleeping facilities for late-night travelers/or atleast some facilities (October 28, 2024, from Delhi to Port Blair). And the last-minute gate change with announcement delay? Come on, @airindia , you can do better! @DelhiAirport @AAI_Official pic.twitter.com/Jqw7sGLqfT

Flight delays are already frustrating enough; adding uncomfortable seats and last-minute gate changes just makes it even more difficult for passengers. And that’s exactly what passengers of a late-night Air India flight from Delhi to Port Blair faced at the Delhi Airport. One of the passengers, Vishnu Thavara, took to X to share some pictures that showed how people prefer to sit on the floor rather than the uncomfortable seats at the airport.
Pictures showed passengers sleeping on carpeted floors and sitting near the boarding gate while waiting for a delayed late-night flight. In the post, Vishnu said, “Our airports should be equipped with sleeping facilities for late-night travellers/or at least some facilities.” He tagged Air India, Delhi Airport, and the Airports Authority of India in the post.
Dear Sir, thank you for sharing the requested details. We’re highlighting this for immediate review. Rest assured, we are committed to implementing necessary measures to uphold the highest levels of service excellence.

Netizens Share Two Cents On This
It looks like the internet agrees with Vishnu Thavara about the lack of comfortable seating and sleeping facilities at Delhi Airport. Many netizens commented and mentioned how they faced similar problems and how uncomfortable seats are at the Delhi Airport. Several of them pointed out how the seats at the airport are ‘rock-hard’ and one can’t sit on them for more than a few minutes, let alone sleep. Here are some comments you cannot miss out on.
I travelled through 20 Airports ranging from Bali ..to Dubai …I had never seen the ROCK HARD seating available in many of the Airports in India …Chennai ..Delhi …it’s very uncomfortable to sit on them for more than 15 minutes ….

Even Delhi airport has the most uncomfortable chairs too @DelhiAirport

They can create more smoke zone on the airport but they can’t afford a 60 recliners cabin.Few recliners would solve the issue, those recliners should only be issued to the late night delayed passengers and may be to the senior citizens and persons with disability or health issues.

Even i and my parents have faced same problem, during long layover and flight delays. AAI should provide sleeping chairs in all airports across country. @AAI_Official

Delhi airport is not managed well even at boarding, luggage check-in. Learn something from Hyderabad, Bangalore which is much better.
Airindia anyways is poor choice of flyers including me. My Dec- Jan flight has been rescheduled 4 times.

Even chairs are very uncomfortable. You can’t sit more than half and hour @DelhiAirport @AAI_Official . I don’t know how many times official themselves sir and waited on these chairs. They would have known the uncomfortableness of these chairs.

It’s better to sit on the Carpeted floor …than to sit on this ROCK HARD black colored chair 😷😷😷

Chairs should have armrests that can be did/engaged and with flat seats, 3 to 4 seats kept consequently. Lounges with comfy seats/ lounge chairs for sleeping, usb/ power sockets alongside. Pls learn some best practices from @ChangiAirport
