If you have pets, travelling with them can be a huge hassle. From ticketing to getting them comfortable enough for the ride, it is a painstaking process. Thankfully, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or the IRCTC is trying to facilitate online booking of tickets for dogs and cats. This will prevent the hassle of passengers having to manually book tickets for their furry friends. This is great news for pet parents who have to travel with their pets.
IRCTC To Facilitate Online Ticket Booking For Pets
The Ministry of Railways has prepared a proposal in order to facilitate booking tickets for cats and dogs online for AC first-class compartments. This means that people who are interested in travelling along with their furry friends will be able to do so by booking tickets online.
The ministry is also mulling over allowing Travelling Ticket Examiners or TTEs to issue tickets to pets. This would mean that just as TTEs can issue tickets for passengers while the journey is ongoing, they will also be able to issue tickets for passengers’ pets.
Earlier, if a passenger wanted to travel with their pets, they would have to book a ticket for them from the parcel counter at the platform. If they wanted the pets to travel with them in the same compartment, passengers could do so only in the first class of the AC compartment. They would have to buy out an entire coupe.

A Huge Relief For Pet Parents
Once launched, the new feature will be a huge relief to pet parents who would like to travel along with their cats and dogs on the train. People were allowed to carry their pets inside boxes and pay for them as luggage. One such box was charged at the rate of 30 kg.
You can travel in train with animals of all sizes from parrots to elephants. However, certain animals can only be transported in designated coaches. Dogs and cats can be put inside a box to ensure that fellow passengers aren’t bothered by them.
