As the holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on March 12, this date is according to astronomical calculations. However, the actual date may vary according to the crescent moon sighting. For those who are still confused, this traditionally determines the start and the end of the months in the Islamic Hijri calendar. The holy month of Ramadan generally lasts for 30 days and this year, if the moon sighting happens when expected, then residents might get a six-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr.

Yes, as the end of the month is determined by the signing of the next crescent moon, the UAE moon sighting committee is expected to convene on March 10. So, if the moon is cited by the committee, March 11 will be the first day of Ramadan and if not, then March 12 becomes the definite start date. As the holy month will last for 30 days, then according to astronomical calculations, Ramadan 30 will take place on April 10, Wednesday. So if these calculations are correct, Ramadan 29 will take place on April 9. This means the dates on the Gregorian calendar will be from April 9 to April 13. And if you also count Sunday, it would result in a six-day break.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that there is also a solar eclipse that’s taking place on April 8. So, people were naturally worried that it might affect the moon sighting. However, it was confirmed in the report that while it might not directly impact the moon sighting, it can influence the visibility conditions in some areas.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the fasting hours will increase to 14 hours and 25 minutes by the end of Ramadan. However, this variation will vary due to changing lengths of the day as the month progresses.
