In an unparalleled move, Prime Minister Modi has announced a 21-day lockdown of the entire country to fight the pandemic of coronavirus. Delivering his address to the entire nation, Modiji urged the people of India to ‘stay at home, stay at home and just stay at home’. This move highlights the top priority of the Government of India to protect the life of every citizen. While addressing the nation the second time, PM Modi warned that if this self-isolation is not implemented then the country will be pushed back 21 years. But apart from the country getting pushed back by 21 years, in Telangana if anyone violated lockdown orders, the state government might implement shoot at sight orders.
What’s In It?
Under Section 51 and 60 of the Disaster Management Act, any violation by individuals, companies or officials involved will result in imprisonment for up to two years. Under this lockdown, every government office, autonomous institutions, public corporations, commercial, private and industrial establishments shall remain closed. However, essentials like fair price shops for groceries, fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, fish shall remain open. Financial institutions like banks and insurance offices along with media like print and electronic will also remain open. However, all transport services like air, rail, and roadways — shall remain suspended during the three-week period.
The District magistrate shall deploy Executive magistrates as ‘Incident Commanders’ in the local jurisdiction to supervise the implementation of the lockdown. However, In Telangana, the lockdown has been taken to a whole new level where Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that stringent action will be taken against violators. Urging citizens to not go out and not get into arguments with officials, the Chief Minister said, “If people do not listen and stay indoors, we will be forced to implement a 24-hour curfew. If people continue to be on the streets, then the army has to be called out and shoot at sight orders may be issued.’’ Did you know 7 Labourers Quarantined On A Mango Tree In West Bengal Amid Coronavirus Outbreak?
