Plastic pollution is a menace to not just the environment but to our health as well. It’s the need of the hour to make small changes in our lifestyle to cut down the use of plastic and reduce our carbon footprint. Zomato is taking a step forward in the direction to reduce plastic usage. In a blog, the food delivery aggregator appealed to customers to “Say no to cutlery”. Zomato changed its cutlery options on the app to reduce plastic wastage. Here are the deets.
Zomato Updates Cutlery Feature To Reduce Plastic Waste
Zomato’s founder Deepinder Goyal took to Twitter to announced the food aggregator’s new cutlery options. Goyal announced a change where the customers of the food delivery app can now do their bit to save the environment. The founder writes that instead of opting out of cutlery with the food, customers now need to opt-in. Earlier, Zomato in collaboration with restaurants would compulsorily send plastic cutlery with the food ordered. But now the tables have turned. With the latest update of the app, foodies need to instruct restaurants for cutlery.

90 Percent Of Zomato Customers Don’t Need Cutlery; Move To Save Costs For Restaurant Partners
So, foodies, if you order from Zomato from now on, your food will not arrive with cutlery, straws and tissues. Apart from an environmentally friendly reason behind this move, Zomato also wants to help restaurant partners save anywhere “between ₹ 2 and ₹ 5” on each order. Deepinder Goyal also shared an elaborate blog as a reason behind this action. After a survey, Zoamto came to know that 90 per cent of customers don’t need cutlery and they’re ready to contribute to the environment. Moreover, a small plastic spoon takes a whopping 200-500 years to decompose naturally. If this action is implemented, it can help save up to 5000kg of plastic a day.
