MDH and Everest have found themselves amidst another trouble. After Hong Kong, Rajasthan’s food safety department has found some of their products ‘unsafe for consumption.’ Reportedly, the state authorities have tested some of their products and have even written a letter to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stating that these spice mixes are not safe for human consumption.

Ever since Hong Kong suspended sales of some spices by MDH and Everest due to high levels of ethylene oxide in their products, the two brands have come under scrutiny. And now, Rajasthan’s food safety department has also found some spice mixes by these brands ‘unsafe for consumption.’

According to Hindustan Times, news agency Reuters has reported that Rajasthan has written a letter to FSSAI stating their concerns about some products by MDH and Everest. The report suggests that the state checked samples of many spices and found a batch of Everest spice mix and two of MDH ‘unsafe’. However, the name of these products hasn’t been revealed in the report.

They have further asked Gujarat and Haryana to take severe action in the matter without delay. The tested batches were made in these two states. The FSSAI and Rajasthan’s food safety department have not commented on this report by Reuters yet.

In April this year, Hong Kong declared some of the spice mixes from MDH and Everest had high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide – ethylene oxide. Following this, they suspended sales of three spice blends produced by MDH and one by Everest.

Following this, Singapore decided to recall Everest’s Fish Curry Masala over the alleged presence of the pesticide. Britain also applied extra controls on spices imported from India. And countries like New Zealand, the United States of America, and Australia also stated they will look into the issue and run their tests as well, as per a report in Hindustan Times.

MDH and Everest have not yet issued a statement on this new matter. The companies, however, have maintained their stance that their spice mixes are safe for consumption after the Hong Kong authorities failed some of their products.
