3. Rangpo

Rangpo, the border town of Sikkim, runs along the Teesta river. The Teesta river is what makes Rangpo in East Sikkim a popular tourist destination as it is one of the main rivers of Sikkim. Best Time To Visit

May and June are the best months to explore Tukla Valley in East Sikkim. The valley is mostly covered in snow throughout January to the end of April. So avoid planning your trip during this time.

5. Nathang Valley

The Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest airport available from Nathang Valley. For travellers opting for a train journey, the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the closest railhead from Nathang Valley. The trains operate regularly so do not worry. For road trip lovers, the only way to reach Nathang Valley via road is to hire private jeeps or cabs.

Nathang Valley in East Sikkim has extreme winters with subzero temperatures. So anytime other than the winter season is best to explore Nathang Valley.

6. Zuluk

If you don’t prefer travelling long distances to North Sikkim for mountain views then just visit Zuluk in East Sikkim. The place is home to similar high-altitude mountains and will make your trip equally memorable. The cherry on top is Zuluk’s blooming rhododendrons.

Zuluk is about 4 hours from Gangtok. So once you reach Gangtok, you will find numerous private cabs available for hire. From Gangtok, a 90 km car ride will take you to Zuluk in East Sikkim.

Best Time To Visit

Zuluk in East Sikkim mostly offers pleasant weather throughout the year. However, we recommend you avoid the rainy season because heavy rains are quite common in this village.

7. Mankhim

You can book a cab from Siliguri for a direct journey to Mankhim in East Sikkim. However, if you want to break it into parts, first take a cab to Rongpo. From Rongpo, you will reach Rongli and finally Aritar.

Best Time To Visit

Spring and summer are the best time of the year to plan a trip to Mankhim in East Sikkim. Winter is unbearable for visitors at Mankhim. So avoid that.

8. Kupup Lake

Also known as Bitan Cho, Kupup Lake is a standout tourist spot in East Sikkim. The charm of the place is unparalleled. Nestled at an altitude of 13,066 feet, Kupup lake lies in the bordering area of China and India. Kupup lake is one of the most sacred lakes of Sikkim.

Kupup Lake in East Sikkim is around 62 km from Gangtok. A 2.5 hours cab journey via Jawaharlal Nehru Street will take you to Kupup Lake.

May and June are the most favourable months of the year to explore the beautiful Kupup Lake in East Sikkim. So if you are fascinated to visit the lake, plan your trip accordingly.

9. Jelep La Pass

Jelep La Pass sits at an altitude of 13,999 feet linking Lhasa to India. Nestled between India and Tibet, the pass is of Tibetan origin and is truly one of the most beautiful passes between Sikkim and Tibet. Tourists can catch a glimpse of the pass while travelling to Kupup Lake.

For all the road trip enthusiasts, take a car ride through the town of Sherathang from Gangtok to reach the pass. If you are travelling from Siliguri, take a train ride from New Jalpaiguri, which is the closest station to Gangtok. Once you reach the capital, you can hire a cab to continue your journey till Jepla Pass in East Sikkim.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit the Jelep La Pass in East Sikkim is between March and May.  Avoid planning your trip to this famous Pass between October and mid-December as the Pass remains inaccessible to tourists during this time of the year.

10. Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo Lake is a glacial lake in East Sikkim and is around 40 kilometers from Gangtok.  The lake is located at an elevation of 12,313 ft and remains frozen during the winters. The uniqueness of the lake makes it one of the most popular tourist spots in Sikkim. 

How To Reach

Tsomgo Lake is around 40km from Gangtok and falls on the Gangtok-Nathula Highway. The roadways to the lake are rough because of the numerous mountains so it is better to hire a private cab from Gangtok to explore the lake. You can also book a local government taxi and travel via the Jawaharlal Nehru road to reach the lake in East Sikkim.

Best Time To Visit

Tsomgo lake in East Sikkim is open to visitors all year round. Just avoid planning a trip during winter because it’s exceptionally cold and the minus zero degrees weather in the region will take a toll on your health.
