1. Vienna In Austria
Vienna is crowned as the most liveable city for the second time in a row. Having a high score of 99.1 out of 100, the Austrian capital has made its mark in the minds of tourists, travellers and job seekers in the world. A number of factors like developed public transport network, affordable healthcare system and street safety were some of the reasons that makes Vienna so liveable. Vienna also ranked first in the Quality of Living Survey conducted by human resource consulting firm Mercer for an entire decade from 2009 to 2019.
2. Melbourne In Australia
Melbourne is popularly known as Australia’s culture capital. From exploring indigenous art at the National Gallery of Victoria to strolling along the Melbourne Arts Precinct, it’s truly a heaven for art lovers across the world. Interestingly, Melbourne enjoyed the topmost position on the Global Liveability Index for seven years till it was beaten by Vienna in 2018. 3. Sydney In Australia
Australia’s most populous city, Sydney rose up to the third position from its previous fifth place in 2019’s Global Liveability Index by the Economic Intelligence Unit. The cultural and environment score of Sydney witnessed drastic improvement and the city has made sincere efforts to tackle the impact of climate change. And due to these factors, Sydney has occupied the coveted third place in this list.
4. Osaka In Japan
The large port city of Osaka in Japan was surprisingly never part of the top 10 most liveable cities in the world until 2018. But after a decline in crime rates and an overall improvement in the quality of transportation, it proudly made its way to this global list. But in this 2019 Global Liveability Index, it dropped down from the third place to the fourth. But nothing stops this port city to Japan’s second-largest metropolitan city after Tokyo. 5. Calgary In Canada
Canada’s Calgary slipped down from fourth to fifth position in the Global Liveability Index 2019. But it has still sustained its position to be the most liveable city in the whole of North America beating out other Canadian rivals like Toronto and Vancouver.
