According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the girder will sail on a football field-sized barge from the Nhava Sheva port. The girder is a bowstring or arched girder and weighs a whopping 2,000 tonnes.

The barge will set sail on April 21, Sunday and is slated to reach the Worli end of the sea link in the wee hours of Monday. The TOI article also stated that the girder will be placed parallel to the northbound arm of the coastal road.

The journey will take around ten hours, depending on the weather conditions and the barge will cover a distance of approximately 62 kilometres. The installation of the girder will take place on Tuesday, April 23. The girder stretches across 136 metres and will connect the sea link to the coastal road.

All The Other Important Details That You Should Know About It

As per an official cited in the TOI article, the installation will is not going to be easy. This is because of a number of factors including but not limited to the shifting sea conditions. The site’s shallow draft and the presence of undersea rock will also have an impact on the installation process.

This is because it is likely that the barge could be damaged by the undersea rock unless adequate navigation is provided.
