Dubai- a city that is known for its wealth, royalty and luxuriant buildings, is distinct in so many ways. Be it the luxurious resorts, or the elevated towers- there’s something about this city that has amused me always. And last year, when I finally got a chance to visit this dreamy city, my perspective changed. Well, it changed for good. Dubai, which is all about glitz and sparkle, taught me a few things that’ll cherish for eternity. It not only taught me how to value things but unknowingly gave me some life lessons too. The trip was adventurous and enlivening, and here are a few things that I learnt from this city.

1. All That Glitters Is Gold, & Sometimes It’s Okay To Appreciate It
Gold and Dubai are synonymous to each other. The city is all about gold. Right from pieces of jewellery to gold ATMS and gold-plated cars, one can never have enough gold in Dubai. And when I visited the famous Gold Souk in Dubai, I was slightly taken aback after looking at all the glitter. But when I witnessed the sheer amount of hard work every shopkeeper was doing to sell the jewellery, it suddenly made me appreciate the sparkle of the gold. It made me realise that for many it’s just a piece of jewellery or an investment, but for others, it’s an art, a source of income and for some even a way of life.
2. Sometimes, Money Can Buy You Happiness
People often say that money can’t buy you happiness. But Dubai made me realise that sometimes, it can. Happiness for me is subjective. People in Dubai are happy when they buy a new luxurious car, when they get to shop till they drop or when they get to eat at their favourite restaurant. And if spending on their luxurious activities makes them happy, then what’s wrong with it? It’s just a way of life, and if money can buy them that life then yes, money can buy you happiness sometimes.

3. Man-Made Things Can Be Beautiful Too
I am nature’s child. I love the sacredness of the beaches and the serenity of the mountains, but I would be lying if I state that my heart didn’t skip a beat after visiting the iconic Burj Khalifa. The architecture in Dubai is awe-inspiring, and it propels you to think about how one can make something as grand as this. And that’s why I believe that man-made things can be beautiful too.
4. You Don’t Just Eat Food You Experience It Too
For me, food has always been about healthy vs junk. I am not someone who’ll go out of my way to experiment with food. But when I visited Dubai, I was spoiled for choices. Every cafe, every restaurant, every street in Dubai has something different to offer. And when I tried the authentic Pakistani cuisine Pak Liyari, it made me realise that every new cuisine is equivalent to a new experience. It’s not just about dishes; it’s also about the flavour, the culture and the authenticity that they added to it.

5. All Cultures Are Fascinating, & Embracing A Part Of It Is Good
Whenever I travel, one thing that I look forward is to know more about their culture. And when it comes to Dubai, I was quite fascinated by their culture. Dubai’s cosmopolitan nature sees a vibrant, and more diverse range of cultures come into play. The culture is more liberal, and people abide by it not because to have to but because they want.
Meanwhile, if you plan to visit Dubai in future, then here are some rules that you have to follow.
