Afghanistan & Myanmar Rocked By Earthquakes Measuring 4.2 And 4.5 Today; Learn More

Myanmar and Afghanistan, in addition to a few other regions, were rocked by an earthquake. The earthquake in Afghanistan is the fourth one today if the posts made by the National Center For Seismology or NCS are to go by. Luckily, no reports of damages or any loss of life have been reported so far. Here are all the details you need to know about this unfortunate series of earthquakes in Afghanistan and other parts of the world.

Afghanistan Experiences Earthquakes

On October 27, Afghanistan experienced a series of jolts. The first earthquake took place at around 12:48 AM IST. It was measured at 4.5 magnitudes on the Richter scale and was 105 kilometres deep. The location of the earthquake was 86 kilometres southeast of Fayzabad, a city in Afghanistan.

Another earthquake took place in the country at 10:11 AM today and it was measured at 4.7 magnitudes. Its depth was about 100 kilometres.

The third earthquake again struck near Fayzabad. About 179 kilometres West of the city, the earthquake was measured at 4.2 magnitudes and happened at around 4:23 PM IST. It was 10 kilometres deep.

A fourth earthquake quickly followed at 4:53 PM IST and it measured 4.2 magnitudes. Its epicentre was located 236 kilometres east of Fayzabad and was 60 kilometres deep. All of these earthquakes were reported by the social media handle of the NCS on the micro-blogging website X (formerly known as Twitter).

Other Places That Experienced Tremors Today

Myanmar, too, experienced tremors today. Around 4:53 IST in the morning, Myanmar was shaken by an earthquake that measured 4.5 magnitudes. It was 30 kilometres deep and its tremors were felt in Nagaland and parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to another post made by NCS today, tremors were also felt in the Bay of Bengal. The earthquake measured to be 10 kilometres deep and was of 4.8 magnitudes. Despite the numerous earthquakes, no reports of damages or loss of lives have emerged, thankfully.

Around two weeks ago, the Indian state of Uttarakhand was also hit by an earthquake. It measured at 4 magnitudes and was five kilometres deep. The epicentre of the earthquake was located approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Pithoragarh. Delhi, too, witnessed a series of earthquakes recently.

Regions close to the Himalayas like Uttarakhand fall under zones that witness high seismic activities. Hence, these regions frequently witness earthquakes. Such frequency in earthquakes calls for pre-emptive and preparatory measures like making earthquake-proof structures and more.
