After IPL 2021, T20 World Cup Has Now Been Shifted To The UAE And Oman

After IPL, T20 World Cup has now been shifted to the UAE and Oman. Considering the tricky covid situation in India, the BCCI has internally intimated the ICC to go ahead and shift the T20 World Cup to the UAE and Oman. The UAE was always the first backup option and now Oman’s capital Muscat has also been added to the list. The T20 World Cup, set to take place in the last week of October will happen across four venues including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Muscat.

T20 World Cup To Be Held In The UAE & Oman In November

The T20 World Cup was scheduled to take place in 2020 in Australia. However, after the covid outbreak across the world, this was pushed to 2021. BCCI has also requested a four-week window to confirm the UAE and Oman as venues. Nevertheless, the ICCI urged that they would like to keep the hosting rights and wouldn’t mind the tournament being held in UAE and Oman.

Muscat has been added onto the list especially for the preliminary rounds. This will give the three UAE grounds ample time to freshen up after IPL 2021. ICC further added that if IPL finishes by 10 October, the T20 World Cup can start from November. In the meanwhile, the first week can be conducted in Oman.

Speaking about the development, a senior board official, privy to ICC board developments, told PTI that overseas players would not like to risk coming to India for the tournament if the situation doesn’t improve drastically. However, they would certainly come and play the IPL in the UAE and would be more than happy to play the T20 World Cup over there, he said.

Remaining IPL 2021 Matches To Be Held In The UAE Between September And October

As per several reports, there will be a three-week window for the matches. And BCCI has also said that it will ask the global governing body for more time to decide whether the Twenty20 World Cup should be held in India in October and November.

In terms of IPL, the league has a massive fan following in India, and it was suspended in early May after many players tested positive. And while stalling the matches, BCCI, in a statement had mentioned that it does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL.
