After Penguins, Mumbai’s Byculla Zoo To House Anacondas At New Reptile Park

Anacondas are The Byculla Zoo’s newest entrants in Mumbai. Are you surprised? You can now see the world’s largest snake in your very own city. The officials plan to make a reptile park inside the zoo, and it hopes to acquire over 20 species of snakes from India and abroad. The anacondas which are a native of South America will be a part of the animal collection for the park. The BMC has already awarded funds for the reptile house near the hippopotamus enclosure.

The Zoo Will Acquire Many Other Species Of Snake

Apart from anaconda, the zoo will acquire other species of snakes. The Indian rock python, the Indian cobra, reticulated python, trinket snake, the rat snake and the red sand boa will all be acquired in the new reptile park. Penguin Enclosures Are Popular With Visitors

Earlier, the BMC was criticised for importing penguins, two of which have lost their lives in the past two years. However, the penguin enclosures found a lot of popularity with the zoo visitors. Before the pandemic, the zoo attracted over 30,000 people over the weekends.
