Air India has announced plans to offer premium economy cabins on long-haul flights. Isn’t it good news? Air India plans increase its fleet by more than 25% within the next months along with the delivery of 30 narrow and wide-body aircraft. The exact number of aircrafts is unknown, but the airline has confirmed that the aircraft will be equipped with premium economy class seats. We are waiting for further details.
This is the first major expansion of fleet after its acquisition by Tata Group. The airline has also recently got 16 short and long-haul aircraft under its service. When it comes to premium economy, another Tata venture comes to mind. Vistara Airlines, a joint venture between Tata Airways and Singapore Airlines, currently offers premium economy category.
A press release stated that they have signed a lease for twenty-one Airbus A320neos, four Airbus A321neos and five Boeing B777-200LRs. Some of these will join the carrier fleet from December 2022 to March 2023 and will operate on the United States routes.

The Mumbai to San Francisco route will see more flights, and will also connect to Newark Liberty and John F Kennedy. Bengaluru will also have 3 more flights.
The airline’s active narrow-body fleet currently stands at 54, with 16 more expected to be back in service by early 2023. While the airline’s wide-body fleet has 33 aircraft, 10 of them are expected to return to service.

First Significant Addition To Air India Fleet In Years
The airline plans to significantly expand its fleet in the coming months. This includes strengthening their fleet to double the number of profitable routes. Air India has placed major aircraft orders to meet the future needs. And, it plans to increase both domestic and international capacity in the near future.
