Air India’s Iconic Building At Mumbai’s Nariman Point May Be Sold For ₹1,600 Cr To Maharashtra Govt

Every time you visit Mumbai’s Nariman point, I am sure you must have seen the iconic tall building of Air India. Well, Air India’s iconic building is now on sale for ₹1,600 Crores. Yes, that is true. Air India Assets Holding Limited is the current owner of this building. It is speculated that this building will soon be sold to the Maharashtra government and also be used as an extension of the Mantralaya.

Air India’s Iconic Building Is On Sale

The likely buyer of Air India’s iconic building in Mumbai is the Maharashtra government. The reports stated that even the Reserve Bank Of India was in the talks of buying this building.

According to a report by The Times Of India, When Maharashtra tried to sell the landmark structure last year, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and encouraged him to give Maharashtra preference.

The report also quoted a senior minister who confirmed the deal taking place where he mentioned that the current owner agreed to sell this building on principle. He also stated that the offer is conditional and the details are yet to be worked on.

The Deal Will Soon Be Finalised

The Maharashtra government has provided clarification on the agreement, stating that it will only be finalised if the Central government vacates all offices in the building.

In February of this year, Air India relocated to New Delhi and departed the 23-story structure. The Maharashtra government granted Air India a 99-year lease on the land where the famous structure is located in 1970.

In 2018, the tenders for the sale of Air India’s iconic building did float but did not receive much response. The Uddhav government had apparently offered ₹1,450 Cr for the same in 2021.
